Ending the month with a smile

Usually when I log onto the Chess.com website it’s only to play chess; I tend to ignore messages, chats, news, and all the other things available at this online chess club. But this morning I clicked on a message sent to me from the system and learned that I’d won the 3rd place trophy in a club tournament that ended last week. Yes, that put a smile on my face. 🙂

The Rosacrucian Tournament began nearly two years ago, and started with sixty players competing. We moved through a total of 540 games played over five elimination rounds. At the end of it, my record of thirty wins, nine losses, and one draw, was good enough for third place overall.

27 Feb. 2013 – Wednesday

1.) Another very segmented sleep came last night, and it brought me 7.5 hours of sleep in total, and a lot of vivid, sometimes lucid dreams. During the period of wakefulness between sleep segments I was even able to get some work done.
2.) Moving smoothly through the day’s chores – no complaints… yet.

26 Feb. 2013 – Tuesday

1.) Much of the morning has been spent cancelling my Spotify account and removing all its clients from my different computers. This will save me ~$10.00 per month. Together, my Last.fm and Pandora cost no more than Spotify did all by itself, and they provide me with all the streaming music service I need. And I’ve been adding and activating the Pandora clients everywhere Spotify used to be.

25 Feb. 2013 – Monday

1.) So the Sandman brought me a solid six hours of sleep last night from 22:00 to 04:00. More would have been nice, but I can usually make it through the day with that.
2.) Hopefully I’ll be able to catalog that big stack of comic books sitting on the corner of my back room work table. That chore will probably dominate the middle part of this day.

25 Feb. 2013 – Monday

1.) It’s been a pretty productive day already. In addition to regular chores (laundry, shopping in the neighborhood, chess work, etc.) I cataloged more comic books today than I’ve ever done in any one day. That stack waiting to be entered into the software is now less than half as big as it was this morning. Yes! Of course, there are still hundreds (over three short boxes full!) waiting to be read, but I’m working on that, too.
2.) Folks up in the panhandle may be having their blizzard today while we have sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s but, Good God, are we ever having strong winds! I was out in the neighborhood awhile ago and one of the gusts nearly knocked me over! Seriously! So I cut my outside chores short and came back home.

24 Feb. 2013 – Sunday

1.) Mighty tired, as well I should be.
2.) Got home from working a 5-hour shift selling Fiesta parade seats with the K of C just in time to watch the last 20 laps of the Daytona 500. Happy that Danica drove a good race and finished strong in 8th place.
3.) Listening to the pregame show for tonight’s Spurs/Suns game.

23 Feb. 2013 – Saturday

1.) Man, the level of social activities filling up my schedule has increased tremendously, and it looks like March is going to be the busiest month I’ve had in God only knows how long! With concerts to attend, K of C meetings, ceremonies, and chores, the 2013 arena football season starting… Whoosh! Busy times! Of course, better that way than not busy at all. At least I’m not going to be bored. Ha!

22 Feb. 2013 – Friday

1.) And another late Spurs game is just starting. Again, we’ll have to see if I can stay up for the whole thing.
2.) It’s been another good day. Got a lot done, had a lot of good social contact.

24 Feb. 2013 – Sunday

1.) The day has been so busy, this is my first chance to make an entry. Good busy. I’ve been working with the GK over at the Cathedral from 10:00 until just now selling seats for the two big Fiesta parades. Just got home. Busy, busy. And the week ahead will be busy, too. Meetings, bank business, some legal stuff, a symphony concert, a special Mass, a K of C ceremony, and a reception, and whatever else might crop up: and all this in addition to my regular stuff this week.

23 Feb. 2013 – Saturday

1.) Last night’s sleep was late and short, and the morning finds me healthier than expected, yesterday being Nation Margarita day.
2.) Great to have a new Stratosphere Lounge on YouTube to take me through the mid-morning.

22 Feb. 2013 – Friday

1.) The left hip is telling me this is a day I should keep the cane close by. When my body tells me things, I’ve learned it’s good to pay attention.

1.) The Sandman brought me a detailed dream last night to go along with the restful, 7.5-hour sleep.
2.) And again I’m struck by how long it takes me to get going in the morning, most mornings. And I’m amused at how I can find ways to be productive before the fog of sleep fully lifts.

21 Feb. 2013 – Thursday

1.) Last night brought a good, 8.5-hour sleep from 22:00 to 06:30 that included a richly detailed dream.
2.) It’s nice to see sunny skies out my windows as I work through the morning’s chores.

Unconsciously muttering – I say:: … and you think.

Playing week 526 of the popular, long-running, word association meme. 🙂

Before I post my responses to the ten words given to us this week, it might be good for me to explain just what this meme is and how it works. I’ve not done that for awhile. So, from the site where this originates every week:

Free association is described as a “psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content.” Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.

That’s an admirable goal, but for the purposes of this excercise, we’re just hoping to have a little fun with the technique. Each week I’ll post ten words to which you can respond to with the first thing that comes to mind.

“Rules are, there are no rules.” There are no right or wrong answers. Don’t limit yourself to one word responses; just say everything that pops into your head. AND you don’t have to have your words up on Sunday. Take all week if you want! Read the FAQ for more information.

That explains what this is and how to do it. But as to why I do it…

Back in the dimly remembered past when I used to have significant others, we often found little “games” like this in various Sunday newspapers, or similar places, and they were fun to play together. They provided a simple, innocent way for us to get to know each other better.

Though I’m now pretty much retired from the “significant other” business, I still enjoy this meme. And I choose to play it right here in my little corner of the Internet, in front of God and everybody, with whomever wants to play along.

Okay then, all that having been said…

I say :: … and you think.

  1. Scalp :: … Indian
  2. Fix :: … repair
  3. Should :: … shall
  4. Believing :: … faith
  5. Cares :: … and woes
  6. Eyelash :: … makeup
  7. Sick :: … ill
  8. Heart :: … attack
  9. Marble :: … statue
  10. Money back :: … refund
