Well, that’s a relief!

I’ve been worried about my Kindle Paperwhite for the last few days. The touch screen had been becoming less responsive, pages were turning slower, pages had been loading only partly, and the poor machine kept getting worse. So I finally googled the problem and found:

Many issues with your Kindle Paperwhite such as a frozen screen or issues with downloading content, can be solved by restarting your device.

Press and hold the Power button for a full 20 seconds.
After the first 6 to 8 seconds, the screen will go blank, which is normal. Continue holding the Power button.

After the 20 seconds, release the Power button.
The charge indicator light will turn on after a few seconds.

Had to restart it twice, but the little guy is working just fine now.
