Walter Korn’s MCO13: my oh my, I’ve not opened the pages of my old chess “Bible” in… I honestly can’t remember how many years. But now it’s by my side once more.
The quality of my chess has declined in recent years since I’ve stopped playing seriously. It’s time to start studying again, and to give my game the attention it deserves.
Long time no see.
Much has been happening, mostly good. I’ll have to tell you about it.
Time is short right now, but I’ll be getting back to you.

2013-06-06 – Thursday
1.) Huh! Someone seems to be under the impression that I’m open to empty conversation and spontaneous, spur of the moment activity. Someone sure doesn’t know me very well.
1.) Had a pretty productive day so far: a load of laundry done, cash for the next couple of weeks pulled out and ready, some shopping in the neighborhood done, now sitting at “my” desk at the Cathedral waiting to hear from LS. Oh, I’m also signed up to work three shifts with the airport “Welcoming Committee” for the K of C Supreme Convention this August: took care of that this morning, too.
2.) Believe I’ve found the fix for the Cathedral’s Server problem. Waiting to run my find by LS.
2013-06-05 – Wednesday
1.) Whew! What a busy afternoon shift! Now to de-stress, grab a bite to eat, and get ready for tonight’s officers meeting.
1.) Have just balanced my books and projected a budget for the next few months. As expected, some belt-tightening is in order
1.) Moving through the morning chores, rather amused at how the dynamic of my days has changed. There’s the early morning prep and personal work, followed by the formal work day, and that followed by an evening shift which can be business meetings, follow up from the day’s work, or prep for the next day. Not a whole lot of time for personal relaxation in there, but I do manage to squeeze some in.

2013-06-04 – Tuesday
1.) Relaxing to TX Rangers baseball radio broadcast after a good day’s work.
2.) Today was my first “regular” work day at the Cathedral, and it went well.
3.) Glad I got a load of laundry done in the morning, and glad I found the missing pair of pants. Why it was hanging with my shirts I’ll never know. Also glad that I was able to buy online and print out the tickets S and I will be using Saturday night.
4.) Tomorrow will be long, K of C officers meeting in the evening.
2013-06-03 – Monday
1.) It’s been a much longer day than I expected it to be, but a good day. Was called in to the Cathedral offices to count money from the weekend’s collections at the Masses. That, and meeting with the GK took the entire business day.
2.) Chatted with S early in the evening, we have plans for Saturday night.
3.) Went to a Talons game tonight and twitter chatted with my daughter while there. That was fun.
4.) Chatted online with a granddaughter after getting home from the game. That was fun, too.
5.) Actually, it looks like I’m going to be tremendously busy every day this week through and including next Sunday.

2013-06-02 – Sunday
1.) Last night’s 8-hour sleep was segmented and restful: the final of two segments brought a pair of vividly detailed dreams. 2.) The long Mass today involved a 3-mile walk (1.5 miles out, and another 1.5 miles back) under the blazing, midday South Texas Sun. And me without a hat. Hope I’ve lathered enough aloe on my head to heal the sunburn that seems to be starting.
2013-06-01 – Saturday
1.) Spent the afternoon with my seamstress, and have been enjoying the deepest sense of relaxation all evening. Nice.
2.) Mighty glad the Pacers beat the Heat tonight! Sure would be great if we could meet them in the finals.
1.) Hard to believe it’s June already.
2.) So it seems the fan has stopped working in my front room a/c unit. And the Maintenance man won’t be back in the hotel until Monday. At least the a/c unit in the back room is working, and I’ve set up a floor fan to blow cooler air into the front room. Hope that’ll keep things liveable until repairs can be made!
2010-05-31 – Friday
1.) And the busy day has been successful: computer is now set up and connected to the Internet over at the Cathedral, have made plans for V to attend the tele-training classes with me on 11 June, got with S to verify our dinner plans for tomorrow, and gave the ST blueprints to F. Running a bath now, getting cleaned up for tonight’s SAS concert.
1.) Last night’s 8-hour sleep was restful, but waking up from it is taking longer than I’d like.

2010-05-30 – Thursday
1.) What an extraordinarily busy day this has been! But it’s been a good day. And I pulled it off after a short, 4.5-hour sleep last night.
2.) My pace of activity will remain much, much higher than it has been for a long time and will continue at that pace well into the foreseeable future.
3.) Hope I sleep better tonight. I bet I will!
2010-05-29 – Wednesday
1.) Last night’s good 8-hour sleep led into what has been an acceptably productive day. I’d like to have accomplished more, but that always seems to be the case these days.
2.) New check-out girl at a neighborhood store told me this afternoon that I looked like “that guy from Jurassic Park.” When I laughed, she said she was going to tell me that the other day, but she was afraid I might be mad. I said, “At least you didn’t tell me I looked like one of the dinosaurs in that movie.” “No, no,” she replied,”You look like someone famous.”

2010-05-28 – Tuesday
1.) Afternoon meetings went well, and a surprise evening business meeting went well, too. It seems I’ll start setting up my computer over at the Cathedral on Friday afternoon. I must admit I’m a bit curious about where my desk will be. I hope it’ll have some degree of privacy and not be stuck out in the middle of a common space.
1.) Another morning spent moving furniture has opened a LOT of space here in my front room. Things are MUCH more comfortable in here now. Plans are for something similar to be done in the back room later this summer.
2010-05-27 – Monday
1.) After a productive morning spent moving computers and monitors around, then doing a bit of shopping online and in the neighborhood, I’m relaxing to a Rangers game on the radio. And this’ll be followed by a Spurs game on the radio tonight. Not a bad way to spend Memorial Day.

2010-05-26 – Sunday
1.) Tonight’s NASCAR race is running way too late for me to responsibly follow. Better to relax my way into an early and good sleep. Hope the Sandman cooperates.
1.) The day’s been productive enough: two loads of laundry done, good social contact with neighbors, good decisions made re: the computer setup I’ll use over at the Cathedral.
1.) Listening to the Indy500 over the Internet. This is a really exciting race.
2010-05-25 – Saturday
1.) The big storm that woke me has finally subsided from its dramatic violence to a simple steady rain. Good. But so much rain has already fallen that the flooding of streets in town will keep me close to home today. And that may be a good thing. Lord knows I’ve got plenty of work to do here.
2010-05-24 – Friday
1.) The business part of my day is over, and I’m happy to say it went well.
2.) This rainy weather will keep me home tonight. Walking over to the Alamodome and back in the rain, after dark, does not seem like a smart thing to do.
1.) After a pretty good sleep last night and a productive morning, I’m ready to move into the afternoon’s round of work: some at home, some over at the Cathedral offices. Busy, busy, busy!
